I want to start off by saying I love this pattern! It’s a free pattern that I found on Pintrest but you can find it here, Go check it out! All pattern credits go to the designer of the pattern One Dog Woof.
I went on Pinterest around nine o’clock last night looking for something to do when I came across this free pattern and decided to give it a try because I’ve seen it many times before. I started it right away and could have finished it last night but I messed up on one of the fins and decided to put it down and finish it the next day. In total, this project took me about four hours from start to finish to complete.
I would say this pattern is for beginners/advanced beginners since it does have some more difficult sections but if you take your time and pay attention to the pattern it shouldn’t give you too much of an issue. The designer did a good job explaining the harder rows of the pattern in the patterns notes to help you if you get stuck.
I was very impressed with how the designer used single crochet decreases and increases to her advantage to create the shape of the top and bottom of the whale. I was also impressed with how realistic the finished product looks! This pattern was really fun to do and it was cool to see how all the parts connected at the end. I learned a new sewing stitch called the mattress stitch which I had never heard of before but I actually really like how the finished product looks having used it.
I used a different kind of yarn than the pattern suggested, I used Red Heart Super Saver in the colors Spa Blue Flecks and white since it’s what I had on hand. I also used a smaller hook; I used a 3.75mm instead of a 4.00mm so my finished product may be different in size compared to the pattern. My finished product measures about 17 inches (43 centimeters) long and 5 1/2 inches (13 centimeters) wide.
I had a great time working on this project and I recommend you guys check it out and give it a try if you have some spare time. It’s a unique pattern and it’s free so go support the designer One Dog Woof who did a great job and give this cool pattern the love it deserves.
