There was a time when my sister and I were obsessed with pineapples, and one day I decided I wanted to crochet one. Every once in a while, I’ll treat myself to a paid pattern. I purchased this pattern of Bill The Pineapple for $5 three years ago on Etsy. If you’d like to view or purchase this pattern, you can find it here. The shop I purchased this pattern from is called hookabee, and I believe the designer is Megan Barclay.
The pattern calls for 100% wool yarn and a 3.5mm hook. I used the correct hook size, but I used acrylic, worsted-weight yarn instead for the project shown in the picture above. I did use a smaller-sized pair of safety eyes than what the pattern called for. I did this because I liked the finished look more, and it was what I had on hand. The only other material you’ll need for this pattern is stuffing (I used polyester fiberfill) and a yarn needle. You have the option to use a stitch marker, but I usually use a small scrap piece of yarn to help me keep track of rows.
If there was one word I could use to describe this pattern, it would be “satisfying”. You start the pattern from the bottom and work up. A technique used a lot throughout the pattern is working in the back loops of the stitches. The reason this technique is used is to add texture, and it allows you to go back later and use the front loops to crochet the leaves on the bottom. I love using this technique. It allows you to add texture and volume to your work. The most satisfying part of the pattern is the leaf section. The leaves have the perfect amount of corresponding stitches on the body (obviously). This makes sewing and crocheting them very satisfying.
The pattern itself is very detailed. This pattern does include photos and instructions. This is nice since some patterns include photos but no descriptions. The designer does a good job making sure crocheters of all levels can follow this pattern though it is labeled as an intermediate pattern. I think the reason for the intermediate label is the fact that the body is made up of bobble stitches (which is a more difficult stitch), and you work in the back loops of stitches often.
