Braids:
-Work in brown with 3.5 mm hook. You will need the hair cap for this step.-
Step 1: Cut 26 (15 inch/38 cm) strands of brown yarn.
Step 2: Take 13 of your 26 strands and loop them through 13 stitches of the hair cap. I started placing the strands on the cap where I fastened off but you can start placing them wherever.
Step 3: Count 11 stitches over before taking the remaining 13 strands and looping them in another 13 stitches.
Step 4: Separate the strands of the 13 looped stitches evenly and braid them, using a small strand of brown yarn to tie and secure the braid. Repeat on the other side. (You can use a different color yarn strand to tie and secure the braid to make them look like hair ties).
Step 5: Trim the ends of the braids to make them even. Make sure both braids are the same length!

Rnd 10: ch 3, *dc inc, 2 dc*, sl st to the starting ch (96)
Fasten off and weave in all ends. Take a long strand of red yarn and weave it through the base row of the hat (at the base of the body of the hat and before the rim of the hat). The hat for my doll turned out slightly big so to keep it from falling off I pulled the red yarn slightly tight before tying the ends and weaving them in.

Assembly:
Step 1: Sew the head to the body, add a little stuffing to support the neck but not too much to distort it.
Step 2: Sew the arms to the body between rounds 25-26. (See pictures for reference).
Step 3: Sew the legs to the front of the body between rounds 8-9. I sewed them about 5 stitches apart. (See pictures for reference).
Step 4: Place the hair cap on the head. Make sure the part of the cap that only has 5 stitches between the braids is facing down near the neck and the part with 11 stitches between is on top near the forehead. (See the pictures in the braid section of the pattern for placement reference). You can sew the hair to the head if you’d like but the cap is snug enough to not need sewing.
Step 5: Embroider the face. If you do not know how to do this, check out this post here for step-by-step instructions on how to.
Step 6: Place the hat on top of the head. You can sew it if you’d like but I chose not to.
