Melty The Miserable Ice Cream Pattern

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn in the following colors (I used Red Heart Super Saver).
    • Minty
    • Pink
    • Light Brown
    • Dark Brown
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • Stuffing
  • Small amounts of black embroidery thread
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Pins for sewing

Abbreviations:

sl st – slip stitch

st (sts) – stitch (stitches)

mc – magic circle

sc – single crochet

sc inc – single crochet increase

invdec – invisible decrease

hdc – half double crochet

blo – back loop

flo – front loop

rnd – round

() – total number of stitches at the end of each round

Bottom Scoop:

-Work in Minty-

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mc (6)

Rnd 2: sc inc x6 (12)

Rnd 3: 1 sc, sc inc (18)

Rnd 4: 2 sc, sc inc (24)

Rnd 5: 3 sc, sc inc (30)

Rnd 6: 4 sc, sc inc (36)

Rnd 7: 5 sc, sc inc (42)

Rnd 8-16: sc in every st (42)

Rnd 17: 5 sc, invdec (36)

Rnd 18: 4 sc, invdec (30)

Rnd 19: Work in blo, 3 sc, invdec (24)

-Start Stuffing-

Rnd 20: 2 sc, invdec (18)

Rnd 21: 1 sc, invdec (12)

Rnd 22: invdec x6 (6)

Fasten off and close the small hole with some leftover yarn. Go back to rnd 19, work in the flo, reattach your yarn and do 5 hdc in each stitch. Sl st to the first st and fasten off, weave in all of your ends.

Top Scoop:

-Work in Pink-

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mc (6)

Rnd 2: sc inc x6 (12)

Rnd 3: 1 sc, sc inc (18)

Rnd 4: 2 sc, sc inc (24)

Rnd 5: 3 sc, sc inc (30)

Rnd 6: 4 sc, sc inc (36)

Rnd 7-13: sc in every st (36)

Rnd 14: 4 sc, invdec (30)

Rnd 15: work in blo, 3 sc, invdec (24)

Rnd 16: work in the flo of the previous round, do 5 hdc in every st.

Sl st to your first hdc and fasten off. Leave a long tail for sewing. You will stuff this scoop later before you sew.

Chocolate Syrup:

-Work in Dark Brown-

Rnd 1: 6 sc in mc (6)

Rnd 2: sc inc x6 (12)

Rnd 3: 1 sc, sc inc (18)

Rnd 4: 2 sc, sc inc (24)

Rnd 5: ch 3, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in the remaining sts and sc in the next 2 sts. ch 5, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in the remaining sts and sc in the next 3 sts. ch 4, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in the remaining sts and sc in the next 5 sts. ch 7, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in the remaining sts and sc in the next 3 sts. ch 3, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in the remaining sts and sc in the next 4 sts. ch 6, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in the remaining sts and sc in the next 4 sts. ch 4, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in the remaining sts and sc in the next 2 sts.

Sl st to your first sc and fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Cone:

-Work in Light Brown-

Rnd 1: 4 sc in mc (4)

Rnd 2: sc inc, 3 sc (5)

Rnd 3: sc inc, 4 sc (6)

Rnd 4: sc inc, 5 sc (7)

Rnd 5: sc inc, 6 sc (8)

Rnd 6: sc inc, 7 sc (9)

Rnd 7: sc inc, 8 sc (10)

Rnd 8: sc inc, 9 sc (11)

Rnd 9: sc inc, 10 sc (12)

Rnd 10: sc inc, 11 sc (13)

Rnd 11: sc inc, 12 sc (14)

Rnd 12: sc inc, 13 sc (15)

Rnd 13: sc inc, 14 sc (16)

Rnd 14: sc inc, 15 sc (17)

Rnd 15: sc inc, 16 sc (18)

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. You will stuff the cone before sewing.

Assembly:

  1. Sew the top scoop to the bottom scoop. I sewed mine at a slight angle but you can sew them however you like. Make sure you stuff the top scoop before you sew.
  2. Use your sewing pins to place the chocolate syrup on top of the top scoop. Keep the pins in as you sew to help you keep the placement you like.
  3. Stuff the cone before sewing it to the top of your ice cream stack. I sewed mine at an angle but sew it however you like.
  4. Embroider the face on your bottom ice cream scoop. I chose a kind of miserable facial expression but get creative with it.
