Poisoned Apple Amigurumi Pattern Review

First of all, I’d like to wish you guys a very happy Halloween! To celebrate this awesome holiday, I have a pattern review of this poisoned apple which seemed fitting. I really enjoyed making this pattern and want to share my thoughts and feelings about it. We’re going to take a deep dive into this pattern so, let’s get started…

Like most of the other patterns I’ve reviewed on my blog, I came across this poisoned apple on Etsy. It is a pattern I have seen on the site many times before but my boyfriend convinced me to buy it for Halloween. I paid $3 at the time I purchased this pattern since it was on sale. The pattern originally goes for $6 though every time I look at it they seem to have a sale going on so be on the lookout for that. This pattern is by the designer Fayni Toys. I will have their Etsy shop as well as a link to this specific pattern at the end of this post.

The pattern calls for sport-weight yarn with a 1.5 mm crochet hook. Using the specified materials should get you an apple that is about 4 inches big. I used worsted weight yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook. Since I used thicker yarn and a bigger hook my apple came to be about 5 1/2 inches big. I do plan on making another apple with the intended materials but I do love how big my apple ended up being. I always like to encourage people to experiment with different types of yarn and different hook sizes. I always think it’s cool to try and get a pattern as big or as small as you can. Experimenting with patterns can test their compatibility using other materials.

Now, let’s talk a little about the construction of the poisoned apple. The body of the apple was worked in one piece. You then go back to a previous round to crochet the poison. The skull is kind of draped over the apple and is sewn by the poison drips on the bottom. You then separately make the stem and sew it to the top of the apple using a technique to shape the top and bottom to look more like an apple.

The pattern itself does not have a label for skill level. In my opinion, this pattern is suitable for anyone and I recommend it to everyone. I seriously had a really fun time making this poisoned apple and I already have plans to make more. The pattern is easy to follow and includes instructional photos. I am really glad I decided to purchase this pattern and I hope you guys consider giving it a try. I was impressed with how the designer decided to construct this pattern and how creative it is.
