Hey guys, welcome to December! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and is now ready to decorate for this Christmas season. This pattern is of a simple crochet stocking made using the waistcoat or some people call it the crochet knit stitch. I used worsted weight yarn in the classic Christmas colors, red, green, and white. So, grab your 5.5 mm crochet hook and let’s get started…
Difficulty: Intermediate
Materials:
- Color A
- One skein of Lion Brand’s Pound Of Love yarn in the color Cherry. You can find the yarn I used here.
- Color B
- One skein of Lion Brand’s Pound Of Love yarn in the color Hunter Green. You can find the yarn I used here.
- Color C
- One skein of Lion Brand’s Pound Of Love yarn in the color White. You can find the yarn I used here.
- 5.5 mm crochet hook
- 6 mm crochet hook
- A yarn needle
- Scissors
Abbreviations:
sl st – slip stitch
ch – chain
mc – magic circle (magic ring)
sc – single crochet
sc inc – single crochet increase
sc dec – single crochet decrease
st (sts) – stitch (stitches
Rnd – round
() – the total number of stitches at the end of each round
** – repeat
Special Stitch:
wc – waistcoat
This pattern uses a unique crochet stitch called the waistcoat or knit stitch. This stitch is a crochet stitch that is supposed to replicate the look of knitting. If you are unfamiliar with this stitch, check out this video I found by Fiber Flux that demonstrates this stitch very well.
Pattern Notes:
- Crochet loosely while crocheting the waistcoat stitch. This can help make working into the next rows stitches much easier.
- If your waistoat stitches get too tight, it can be helpful to keep a smaller crochet hook around to help you with the tighter stitches.
- This pattern is worked in joined rounds. This means that you will slip stitch and chain one at the end/beginning of each round.
