Easter Chick Lovey

Easter Chick Lovey

Hey guys, and welcome to spring! So, usually, my lovey patterns are premium, but I decided to give you this adorable chick lovey for free this Easter holiday. I hope you guys love it and forgive me for my absence here as of late. My personal life got super busy, but I’d love to start posting here more regularly. Ok, that’s enough of me talking. Let’s get started…

Easter Lovey Pattern:

Difficulty: Great for crocheters of all levels.

Materials:

  • I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn
    • Color A, Soft White
    • Color B, Bright Yellow
    • Color C, Spring Green
    • Color D, Light Blue
    • Color E, Orchid (Purple)
    • Color F, Petal Pink
    • Color G, Pale Yellow
    • A small amount of the color Pumpkin for the beak
  • 5 mm crochet hook
  • 3.75 mm crochet hook
  • Stuffing
  • A yarn needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviation:

sts (sts) – stitch (stitches)

sl st – slip stitch

ch – chain

mc – magic circle

sc – single crochet

sc inc – single crochet increase

invdec – invisible decrease

dc – double crochet

Rnd – round

() – the total number of stitches at the end of a round

** – repeat

[]- all of the stitches within these brackets are done in one stitch

Special Stitch:

picot

Step 1: Chain 3 and insert your hook into the third chain.

Step 2: Yarn over and create a slip stitch through the third chain.

And that’s it! This is a very simple yet very elegant-looking stitch. I used it around the border of the blanket to make it look pretty.

Pattern Notes:

  • The chain 3 at the beginning of every blaket round counts as a double crochet stitch.
  • Slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain 3 at the end of each round.
  • The head and arms of the chick are worked in amigurumi style, it is recomended that you use a stitch marker to mark the beginning or end of each round.
  • I chose to embroider the eyes and beak of the chick. You can use safety eyes or another preferred method for the face, just be sure to keep in mind the age of who will be recieving this item.

The Blanket:

Use the 5 mm crochet hook and start with white yarn. Check pattern notes before starting this project.

Assembly:

Step 1: Embroider the eyes and beak on the head.

Step 2: Create the tuff on top of the head. I did this by picking up stitches in the center of the head and chaining a few stitches. Then I slip stitched into the same stitch I was working in. Repeat as many times as you want varying in the amount of chain stitches you crochet.

Step 3: Sew the head to the first row of the blanket. Then sew the arms to the second row of the blanket.
