Slip Knot and Chain Stitch

When learning to crochet, learning your slip knot and chain stitch is essential as they are the foundation and most used techniques in crochet. If you are a beginner and need help or a skilled crocheter that needs a refresher, I’ve included step-by-step instructions and an instructional video to follow along with below!

Abbreviations:

Slip Knot – sk

Chain – ch

How To Do A Slip Knot:

Step 1: Make a loop with the yarn.

Step 2: With your thumb and index finger, go through the loop.

Step 3: Pinch the tail end connected to the skein of yarn.

Step 4: Pull through the loop and tighten.

How To Do A Chain Stitch:

Step 1: Insert your hook into the stitch you’re working in.

Step 2: Yarn over and pull through, you should have two loops on your hook.

Step 3: Yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook.
